Support for our colleagues in Poland

Polish judges are arranging a march in defense of the rule of law on January 11, 2020 at 15.00 in Warsaw. More information here. In support of our Polish colleagues, the Swedish Association of Judges has today adopted the following statement.

Polish judges see their independence increasingly curtailed by the actions of the Polish government. There is reason for great concern, as regards the rule of law in Poland.

The Swedish Association of Judges wishes to express our worries about the development in Poland and our support for the independence of our Polish colleagues.

We urge the Polish government to withdraw the changes and proposed changes that threaten the independence of the judges in Poland. We urge the European Commission to use its powers to protect judicial independence and the rule of law in Poland.
